We Saale-Unstrut Association invites you to a lecture with Dr. Manuel Schwarz.

When the name "Kruse" is mentioned, many people in the Saale-Unstrut region think above all of Käthe Kruse, who lived in Bad Kösen from 1912 to 1949 and produced her world-famous dolls there. Today, an exhibition in the Romanesque House and the Käthe Kruse Street commemorate the "doll mother". The show in the Kösen Museum also deals with Käthe Kruse's family, including her husband Max. He was active as a sculptor, painter, stage designer and inventor. His sculpture "The Messenger of Victory at Marathon" and his portraits of Friedrich Nietzsche, among others, brought him early fame. While the artist is far less known today than his famous wife, he was even made an honorary citizen of Bad Kösen in 1924 on the occasion of his 70th birthday. On the occasion of the approaching double anniversary - the 170th birthday of the artist and the 100th anniversary of the awarding of honorary citizenship - Dr. Manuel Schwarz reports in his lecture on the life and work of Bad Kösen's (unknown) honorary citizen.

Manuel Schwarz studied history and politics at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. He completed his doctorate in Jena in 2023. He researches and publishes primarily on the history of monarchy and culture, particularly in central Germany. He has worked as an exhibition curator for the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte. He is currently working for the Marbach Weimar Wolfenbüttel Research Association, where he is dealing with the estate of the Weimar Nietzsche Archive and Nietzsche portraits.

Participation is free of charge. Donations are requested.
