In an effort to make the liturgical function of Naumburg Cathedral even more clearly recognisable and at the same time to raise the artistic standards in the cathedral to a new level, new paraments were created for the World Heritage Site.
The red paraments are entitled „Incision“ and were designed by Inka Schottdorf and Margarita Wenzel. They were realised as a jacquard fabric with the help of Constanza Kramer and a weaving mill in northern Italy. The green paraments with the name „Embassy“ were realised in collaboration with Viktor Petrov and made as copper-brass mosaics in elaborate handwork. The three artists are internationally active and live and work in Bad Bocklet, Paris and Berlin.
Inka Schottdorf, Viktor Petrov and Margarita Wenzel studied at Burg Giebichenstein and partly at the Berlin University of the Arts. Back in 2020, Wenzel and Schottdorf were commissioned by the Vereinigte Domstifter to develop designs for new paraments for Naumburg Cathedral. The parish of Naumburg was ultimately commissioned to realise the designs for the red paraments. Funding was provided by the Vulpius Foundation.
