MDR Music Summer "Hidden treasures"
The MDR Music Summer celebrates its 30th anniversary with renowned artists and concerts in castles, churches and parks in central Germany.
In the year of the 400th anniversary of the death of Michael Praetorius, the Huelgas Ensemble in Naumburg will conclude the concert series "Romanesque Road" by stopping at one of his places of work and tracing which Renaissance masters influenced the composer. The ensemble and its director Paul Van Nevel will focus on Josquin Desprez, who died exactly 100 years before Praetorius. The work of Desprez and his contemporaries marks the early period of the Renaissance. Surprisingly stubborn and experimental, it reflects the interest of its creators in text interpretation and comprehensibility, making them pioneers of humanism in the musical field. Fifty years after its founding, the Huelgas Ensemble has retained its spirit of discovery and continues to unearth new treasures of Renaissance art.
