The UTA meeting - a date with Naumburg's most beautiful woman

To be more precise: a date with Uta's from all over the world. The first name may no longer be in the top ten, but it is melodious and timeless, means heritage and possession - and has a truly world-famous namesake in the form of Uta, the founder of Naumburg Cathedral.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Naumburg Cathedral is a magnet for visitors. Above all, the works of the "Naumburg Master," the architect and stone sculptor whose name is unknown, exude the greatest attraction. He and his workshop are responsible for the west gallery with the reliefs on the Passion story and the west choir with the twelve life-size figures of the founders. Every year, people from all over the world are fascinated by the realism and individual expressiveness of the figures. Umberto Eco paid a very special tribute to Uta von Ballenstedt, probably the most famous donor figure. In his "History of Beauty" he writes: "If you ask me which woman in the history of art I would go out to dinner and spend an evening with, the first would be Uta from Naumburg Cathedral".

The donor figure Uta von Ballenstedt stands as a symbol for the "most beautiful woman of the Middle Ages". She went down in art history as one of the most ingenious creations of German sculpture. Her grace and gracefulness fascinate visitors over and over again and cause parents even today to name their daughters Uta. Personal memories and stories are often connected with the naming, which can be exchanged at the Uta meeting in Naumburg. More than a thousand Utas have already come to the UTA meeting in Naumburg. The youngest was just one year old and traveled with her grandma Uta. The furthest journey was made in 2012 by a Uta from Jamaica.

On the weekend of 19 to 21 April 2024, the UTA meeting will be held in Naumburg for the ninth time. As in previous years, the namesakes of all other founder figures, Konrad, Gepa, Gerburg, Ekkehard, Thimo, Wilhelm, Syzzo, Berchta, Dietmar, Reglindis and Hermann are also very welcome. To kick off the three-day programme on Friday, the founders "climb down from their pedestals" to welcome all guests to the cathedral square. Afterwards, participants can look forward to the traditional festive opening ceremony in Naumburg Cathedral with a group photo of all the namesakes. Throughout the weekend, guests can choose between cathedral and city tours, workshops, wine hikes and special cultural evening events such as theatre performances and concerts.
